34 SKY SAILOR March-April-May | AUTUMN 2025 was jumping out of his skin. A local pilot commented that Andy may have been the first ever non-Tasmanian hang glider pilot to launch off Mt Wellington. They were in their element. A quick trip to Hope Beach in the after- noon for a chance of some dune gooning would have topped the Mt Wellington day off nicely, however, conditions were easing as they set up. Damian and Andy got their feet off the ground only for a few seconds – a flight is a flight! The fourth site for the week was Winton Hill and it brought some drama with it. We’d arrived with Damian and were waiting for Amber. Ren was halfway to the bomb-out when a few spots of rain on the windshield made him change his mind and he went to work instead! When Amber arrived, we loaded her glider on our car, ready to go. The drive up was smooth and we arrived at a beautiful grassy hill. Amber feverishly started setting up as conditions looked good. Unfortunately, as much as she looked (even in her batten bag) the base-bar was nowhere to be found – devastating! Andy in the Falcon Hang Gliding is awesome in Tasmania
