50 SKY SAILOR March-April-May | AUTUMN 2025 The Sunshine Coast Free Flyers Adventure Film Festival – Real Adventures Become Cinema by Susy Goldner Paragliding footage is everywhere. GoPros perch on helmets, selfie sticks get the perfect angle and 360º cameras capture varied perspectives. But how often do we take the time to craft something more than just another two-minute video? The challenge five members of Sunny Coast Free Flyers club took on was to revisit an epic adventure, get creative, and tell the story for the big screen. On Saturday, 15 February, a projector hummed to life in Auditorium 3 at Sunshine Coast Uni. Big screens flickered on, and suddenly, we were diving into a world of stories, featuring grit, tenacity, and passion for advenure. The SCFF Film Festival had begun. The films captured many types of escapade – some planned, others not, some tales were light – self-deprecating commentary, misjudged decisions, and sheer comedy, others were poignant. Setting the tone for the night, Hammed Malik’s screening ‘Carpe L’Mountain’, about his vol biv in the high country of Victoria, kicked off the evening.
