52 SKY SAILOR March-April-May | AUTUMN 2025 was the atmosphere. Between films there was laughter, pilots swapping stories, and reflecting together on how ‘ordinary’ people do extraordinary things. Our fourth presenter was Dave Vetier. His movie ‘Go Via’ recounted with humour and authenticity the highs and lows of his record-setting, 2100km e-skating odyssey from Mont St Michele in France to San Sebastian in Spain. Featuring raw honesty, Dave’s was an incredible story of distance, endurance, and friendships – especially the bond he formed with a rubber chicken named Claude. Bringing the evening home, we heard from Shane Tighe. His presentation ‘Fly Stride Repeat’ brought incredible insight to the audience. We took a deep dive into the world of extreme hike & fly, as Shane walked us through his experience in the 2024 X-Pyr competition. He broke down his flying tactics, we learned the decisions and calculations behind his route choices, the risks he took, and the challenges he faced, navigating pretty brutal terrain. A master- class in competitive adventure racing left everyone with greater knowledge and a deep appreciation of its complexity.
