Behind the Build: A quick chat with Ham & Coco After hearing how Squiggly 2 came together, I sat down with Ham and Coralie (project manager, or more accurately, Ham-anager) to ask them about their favourite features and key moments in building Squiggly 2. In simple terms, what’s new in Squiggly 2? Ham: Reliability and the integration of different trackers. Squiggly 1 leaned heavily on Skylines. Squiggly 2 allows pilots to link multiple trackers from different sources (including Skylines, XContest, Garmin, etc.), and the system prioritises higher-frequency data and switches automatically if one drops out. From a user What I want Squiggly to be Squiggly is a labour of love. It’s not a start-up pitch deck or a plan to conquer the app store. It’s building something my friends enjoy using, because I love the culture around flying: the stoke, the banter, the quiet little missions that turn into huge days. A mate once messaged me mid-flight, I was stuck in horrible, barely-there lift, working for scraps and trying not to let doubt creep in. Out of the corner of my eye, a message pops up: “You got this Ham!” It was tiny, but it hit hard. Paragliding is a solo sport by nature. You can feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere and some- thing like that reminds you you’re not. That’s what I want Squiggly to do: Share the stoke and connect people – pilots in the air, friends at home, retrieve drivers on the road, the whole little ecosystem around a flying day. Squiggly 1 proved the idea: Make it simple and people will use it. Squiggly 2 is about making it durable, expandable, and more honest about how flying days really unfold.
