14 SKY SAILOR January | February 2022 grants from government and private organisa- tions to ensure the longevity of the sport. “In 1998, myself and other long-term pilots formed the Hill Flyers Club Inc. In support of our sport, we offered our many years of experience to assist new pilots and develop the sport locally.” Rick was appointed President of HGAWA from 2000 to 2008. He has continued as a board member and is currently the Treasurer. “I am proud to be a member of the Board and able to further offer my support to them and the sport in helping to develop policy, procedures and infrastructure with a sound financial footing, to help secure sites, airspace and membership. It’s important we further streamline the rules and regulations governing our sport to reduce as far as practicable any impediments to flying our chosen aircraft for our current members, returning members and new members taking up our incredible sport.” Rick said he was “extremely honoured and privileged” to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award in November 2021 and will never give up flying, or training others to fly. “I plan to continue indefinitely to bring the fantastic experience of flying to more and more of us, for existing and new pilots, through the continued careful management of our sport.” Ralf Gittfried has also recently been recognised as a life member. Expect a story on Ralf in the next issue.
