24 SKY SAILOR January | February 2022 Up to 100 paragliders will be seen soaring through the skies of Victoria’s high country when the annual Bright Open begins on 5 February 2022. As one of the two legs of the Australian Nationals (SAFA) AAA sanctioned competition, the Bright Open will see pilots competing against each other in one round which will also count towards pilots’ WPRS scores. Located in the Victorian Alps, north-east of Melbourne, the competition is one of the most picturesque on the SAFA events calendar, providing a beautiful mountainous backdrop. The competition is situated between Mt Buffalo, Mt Bogong and Mt Feathertop, which dominate about 1000 to 1200m above the valley with peaks of 1500 to 1800 asl. The Bright Open has been running for over 20 years and has become one of SAFA’s most well-known and well-attended competition. The seven-day event will feature a series of tasks to complete. Being AAA rated, there will be 450 points available for the Aussie ladder. While COVID-19 has proven to be a challenge for the competition, along with A Bright start to the new year for paragliding
