8 SKY SAILOR January | February 2022 The non-glory days are spent fishing, swimming or just lounging around. Burketown is the Barra capital of Australia (or so the sign says). We went on trips to Gregory (120km away) where there is a clean clear river flowing nicely all year round – and a pub of course as well as a surprising good café, in an outbackish sort of way. Gregory River is a great swimming spot on those oppressively hot days, and just a bit further away is Adel’s Grove and Lawn Hill Gorge, both of which are truly spectacular places to spend some time escaping the heat. Somewhat further away again are Normanton and Karumba, where the Barra Centre and various other tourist spots can be good to visit. This area is awe inspiring, and in the dawn light, truly spectacular. However, it does take Adventures on a Morning Glory
