SAFA Skysailor Magazine
5 July | August 2022 SKY SAILOR with contributions from guest presenters and members of the NSWHPA. It was a great initiative and one that SAFA has earmarked for further development. SAFA Staffing Recruitment will soon be underway to fill our new staffing structure. Details of the re- cruitment process, selection criteria, including qualifications and attributes and the selection process will be advised to members soon, along with specific job descriptions and other relevant information. We will also be adver- tising on different online platforms. Members who feel they can meet the requirements for the roles are encouraged to apply. Student Pilot Enhancement Following consultation with our schools and instructors, we have made changes to Student Pilot memberships that effectively reduce the fee and increase the flexibility with which it might be applied. We also seek to make the administration as simple as possible for our instructors. Part 149 Progress The deadline to meet our obligations and provide our document exposition is 2 December 2022. At the recent Canberra meeting, we conducted a gap analysis, identifying much work still to be done. We have set this as a priority for staff and Board alike. We intend to conduct member consultations where change is recom- mended, however, it may not be possible to address every issue given the workload and timeline involved. Notwithstanding, John Chapman on BDG Punk approaching Mt Feathertop (1922m / 6300ft) Photo: Dave Smiley we will do our best to ensure members are kept abreast of all relevant Part 149 matters. SO and SSO Encouragement We thank those SO/SSOs who responded to our consultation regarding the requirements for First Aid Certificates. SO/SSOs are in great demand across Australia, and many of you see the need for a First Aid Certificate as an impediment to either gaining or maintaining your SO/SSO qualification. To encourage greater take up of this vital volunteer role, we are proposing changes to our Operations Manual to remove the mandatory element of this requirement. This needs CASA approval which will take a few weeks. We hope this positively impacts SO/SSO numbers and will encourage former qualifica- tion holders to reactivate their qualifications. Fly safe.
