SAFA Skysailor Magazine
6 SKY SAILOR July | August 2024 by Tracey Meyer The Birchip FTTF Hang Gliding Competition is back! With 44 pilots competing this year – double last year’s – it was arguably a huge success. We also had four lovely ladies competing, one of which was breastfeeding her seven-week old baby in the hot dusty paddock between tows! Thanks to the hard work of the organisers, HG Comps Inc., and all their wonderful helpers, the competition is approaching the level of its former glory days. With three days of flyable weather, pilots got the opportunity to get out there and give it a damn good crack. Conditions were generally light and variable, which did lead to some interesting launches and landings over the weekend. Phillip Campbell learned that you should not brush your wingtip in a tree, and neither should you wrap your tow bridle around a barbed wire fence! Brett Huggan performed a ‘dolly launch’ without the aid of a dolly, which we will hopefully never see again. Brett’s effort on the dance floor at the Birchip pub after a couple of beers, however, was wildly amusing and a must see! Birchip Flatter Than The Flatlands Hang Gliding Competition 2024
