18 SKY SAILOR March | April 2023 Corryong Cup Hang Gliding Competition 2023 by Tracey Meyer Corryong Cup Hang Gliding Comp is over for another year. There were over 60 pilots attending this year, including pilots from all over Australia, some from Norway, Germany, Poland and Ireland. HG Comps (the organisers of this year’s competition) would like to thank the generosity and understanding of local land owners, especially Stuart and Karen Paton who allowed the use their paddock on the NE end of the Corryong airfield. After the winter rains the paddock was a bit chopped up from the cattle, however, it still provided a large area to land in with the light variable winds that were about this year. Many of Australia’s best pilots attended, including current and past members of the National team and the women’s World champion, Corinna Schwiegershausen. It was great to see many new pilots and returning veterans of the sport, which created many opportunities for fun flying and the learning of new skills. Fortunately there was no talk of Covid19 this year and only one day of rain which, compared to the previous year, was most excellent. We had four days of great flying, however, in hindsight, this could have been six, conflicting weather reports kept us on the ground while some went free flying.
