6 SKY SAILOR March | April 2023 Following the very wet spring and flooding through the Mallee and along the Murray, plans for Big K week had most of us looking to fly elsewhere, but at the last minute we got the green light and a few keen pilots ventured out to Birchip to take a look. It was on, and oh boy did it turn out to be a great week! Every day was flyable (we usually lose a day or two to high winds), the paddocks were dry (maybe with a few damp bits), and we had cu’s every day (unusual here since it’s generally so dry). Four members of the Melbourne HG club went early to check conditions and gave the okay for a field of around 20, with four pilots who made the trip over from Tassie.
