16 SKY SAILOR May | June 2022 There was enthusiasm, grit and a whole lot of determination when pilots took to the skies in search for the spot landing champion. The event was held recently at Stanwell Tops, NSW, where more than 50 pilots competed to win a prize pot of goodies. All participants’ entry fees were donated to a very worthy cause, raising over $3,000 for Ken Hutt’s End Polio Now Campaign with event organiser Catherine McMillan saying the generosity on the day was beautiful to behold.  “With enthusiasm, gusto and a whole lot of cocky bravado, pilots took to the Spot Landing Comp with the determination of Olympians seeking a gold medal,” Catherine said.  The huge 30-metre red arrow and green spot target was placed at the southern end of Stanwell beach, which made the task a true challenge in the light conditions early in the day. Thankfully, the wind picked up as the day unfolded and provided near perfect conditions for pilots to hit the target.  Tibetan prayer flags waved in the breeze at launch, marking the registration tent where pilots were warmly welcomed, paid their donation, and set their minds to focus on the target. As pilots launched, the sky filled with colour- ful gliders as far as the eye could see, while the hill was covered in wide-eyes turned skyward to watch the spectacle. Both, the public and the Fly Stanwell community, were enthralled by the energy and buzz.  “The atmosphere on launch was festive.
