Growing beyond our ongoing reliance on member subscriptions for our financial health, for example, requires a different approach, different resourcing and different strategies. To be successful, we need to identify what resources we may require and align them in a manner that gives us the best chance of success. We need to leverage SAFA assets to maximum effect – this includes, for example, making the best use of our office arrange- ments in Melbourne. The Board has been reviewing and assessing how best to set our- selves up for the challenges ahead and expects to provide details of some further changes over the coming weeks. Part 149 Work continues on this significant project. SAFA representatives will be meeting with CASA on 11 and 12 May in Melbourne to discuss, in detail, our progress towards meeting the requirements for becoming Part 149 compliant. Part 149 has been covered in previous SkySailor editions. It is of great signif- icance to SAFA in that successful attainment facilitates greater responsibility and greater self-management of the aviation disciplines we are responsible for. Time to go flying We’ve had the 2019 bushfires, the onset of Covid and the subsequent lockdowns and other hardships/restrictions imposed on freedoms during 2020/21, followed by the rains and floods of the summer just gone, so the last few years have been incredibly dis- ruptive for our sport. But there’s a great way for our members to erase those memories quickly: get the flying gear out, grab a com- panion, and take to the skies again. Fly safe.
