Plenty of PBs were achieved and the keen leaders managed to stretch out the final parts of the day to fly up to 152km. Many were high at around 100km and could have flown further but landed at Warialda suffering from a classic case of ‘pub suck’ (a strong need to land near a pub). Results: 1st Magdy Malik (AUS, Advance XAlps 3, Comp (EN-D/CCC/2-liners), 152 points); 2nd Joshie Tie (AUS, Flow XC Racer, XC (up to EN-D/3-liners), 139 points; 3rd Ben Braithwaite (NZ, Phi Allegro Light, Sport (up to EN-C), 138 points). Final results The Manilla XC Camp finished on Saturday with pilots flying four valid days of the eight Manilla XC Camp 2023 available. The stormy weather mid-week reduced the potential for the big distances that pilots were hoping for, but nevertheless over one third of the field managed personal bests. Winning the event by a huge margin was Magdy Malik of Sydney with a total of 684km. In 2nd place and best in XC Class was Josh Tie from the Sunshine Coast on 486km. Local pilot Luke Beresford was close behind on 430km and also the winner of Sports Class. Fun Class was a tight race right until the end with Dan Goddard (QLD) winning on 164km. In the women’s it was an international affair for all three places with Anna Pruem from Germany taking first place (148km) from Coralie Werbrouck of France (111km) second and Kiwi Kyla Macdonald (86km) in third.
