16 SKY SAILOR May | June 2023 Task 3 – 21/3/2023 Another astonishingly beautiful day in Castelo, with sapphire skies and abundant pearly clouds. With a high cloudbase, a 101km, three TP task was set. Pilots reached the first TP north of Castelo with just one thermal after the start. They then split into several groups across the flatlands and the hills to struggle in the crosswind leg towards Cachoeiro do Itapemirim. A quarry and a beautiful snowy falcon helped one group climb to base! After TP2, the key was deciding when to be patient and when not. Line choices mattered a great deal as everyone pinballed between monoliths and fields of Brazilian cows. A lot of pilots got low after TP3 and lost time searching for weakening lift, losing time climbing, whilst the lead gaggle pulled away. A good thermal just before Castelo helped pilots climb to 1300m for the final glide to goal where104 happy pilots touched down. PWC Castelo, Brazil
