26 SKY SAILOR May | June 2023 The second day saw us being guided into holding stalls longer, spiralling deeper and ramping our wingovers up to the next level. By the end of the second day, energy was high and positivity was the prevailing vibe! “We could do it!” Everyone was successful in testing and challenging their wings, their skills and abilities to step up to another level. This too is one of the foundational tools of SIV – trying something new, succeeding and feeling accomplished enough to want to attempt the next new thing! On the third day, the weather provided us with the opportunity for a hill soar and poten- tial XC at Lake St Claire, so the team gathered up gliders, water and hiking poles for the trek to the top! We enjoyed a beautiful afternoon of ridge soaring and mellow thermal chasing. Such a fantastic shared experience for us all. By the final day, it was time for Sats (Satellite move) attempts and reserve throws! This team of women bravely took up the challenge and Jocky’s crew were surprised to see that more than half the participants chose to throw their reserve! Well done ladies! Brave, bold and beautiful! I am most proud of the way this group of women supported, encouraged and helped each other. Our course was not without incident – two unplanned water landings, a landing with a cravatted wing, and a few bumpy take offs and heart-stopping moments. Yet, through it all, the genuine camaraderie, solidarity and ongoing encouragement was im- mensely powerful. Laughter, both genuine and Women With Wings do SIV Photos: Catherine McMillan
