32 SKY SAILOR May | June 2024 The Sports-Class Racing Series (SRS) took off last year for the first time with four events – Macedonia, France, Italy, and Spain. This year it just got bigger and better, with more events and becoming a truly international series with pilots taking part from all over the world. The 2024 competition season opened with the first round of the SRS in Piedechinche, Colombia. The SRS has 130 pilots racing Sports class wings over seven possible tasking days. Being a series, rather than a single event, the SRS is somewhat unique in the calendar. Sports Class Racing Series – the accessible race that puts safety first by Ruth Jessop Each round has a winner and, at the end of the year, a champion is crowned taking their 10 best results from all rounds during the season into account. This combination, as well as no FTV (discard days), makes for an interesting mix of tactics. If you’re going for the round win, consistency pays. Going for the series win favours high places in at least 10 tasks. The SRS has now firmly established itself as THE Sports class racing circuit.
