SAFA Skysailor Magazine

15 November | December 2021 SKY SAILOR Wild sheep and goats roamed in packs, oth- erwise tuna or dolphins were the only wildlife we saw. We saw no one on the beaches or the plateau. Our footprints in the sand were the only ones. The sky, owning its blue shades, was painted with ribs of streaking white cirrus cloud. Winds were mostly S to SW, with one sneaky unexpected front of 45kt that had us diving onto gliders to save them from being dragged across the razor sharp rocks and stunted thirsty fauna. We dodged the global pandemic until the last few days. The closed WA border that had us locked out in such a remote location was unusual as we were the only ones there! Making our way back, we were dodging road trains that dominate the tedious 1500km stretch of tar. A 3am dash to Adelaide airport on our last day had us to make our Covid-19 restricted getaway. There is something magical about the Nullarbor cliffs, its remote, prehistoric, challenging wilderness. We’re definitely going back. Can’t wait!
