42 SKY SAILOR November | December 2021 Free Introductory Hang Gliding Courses In March this year, Moyes Delta Gliders teamed up with SAFA, HangglideOz, Air Sports and many amazing volunteers to run an initiative, introducing four communities to the sport of hang gliding, which gave locals a chance to participate in a free two-hour beginner lesson! We loved meeting the 78 participants across the four locations and loved even more that some went on to complete the beginner course with a CFI. Seeing those 78 faces light up with a huge smile once their feet left the ground and experiencing free flight for the first time, was a priceless moment. What was most encouraging was the way the hang gliding community showed their support for us over the four days, with a total of 35 volunteers turning up to help make the event such a success. The popularity of these events across Wollongong, Forbes, Springrange and Newcastle was great to see, and this summer our plan is to make them bigger and better and across even more locations.
