SAFA Skysailor Magazine

17 November | December 2023 SKY SAILOR The day started with weather briefings and important tips on XC flying. The pilots were then divided into topless, sport and floater groups, each with a mentor who was on the same radio channel and helped shepherd them on course. Day One was a cracker and about a third of the pilots made goal. Day Two had challenging conditions that the Sky site had gotten wrong. Unfortunately, we had strong winds on Day Three, but lots of chats were had and much important information passed on. The Moyes crew put on one of their legendary feasts for dinner and much frivolity was had. Day Four was looking suss so we headed home early. Well done to Mario and Brett for winning Floater and Sport class respectively. Richard got a PB XC. Mario got his first Wedgie attack and seemed surprised that swearing at the eagle in Spanish didn’t ward it off. Unfortunately, I got roped in as a tug pilot so didn’t fly a hang glider, but I did get a NSW pilot aerotow endorsed whilst there. This was a wonderful learning opportunity for anyone wanting to improve their XC skills so make sure you get to the next one!” If you want to find out about the next big aerotow event, the Forbes Flatlands is open for registration now.
