SAFA Skysailor Magazine

4 SKY SAILOR November | December 2023 President’s Update by Paul Green At the time of writing this update, we are a week away from the 2023 SAFA AGM, and a couple of weeks away from declaring the result of the 2023 Board Election. In addition, we are in the final stages of our journey to be recognised by the regulator as a Part 149 organisation. It is a very busy period for staff and volun- teers, but their efforts bring the promise of renewal, refocus and a fresh energy to the important issues that need to be addressed to continue the process of reforming our sport for the benefit of members. A high priority for SAFA moving forward will be to establish an effective member consulta- tion/communication process in relation to Part 149. It is essential that members understand what is being regulated, how this occurs, and how SAFA will be required to operate as a Part 149 organisation. It is equally essential that members have an opportunity to scrutinise the new arrangements and provide feedback and/or suggestions for improvement where appropriate. The document pack for the upcoming AGM provides a positive snapshot of our organisation as well as highlighting some of the work undertaken by Board members and staff over the last two years. We also face chal- lenges looking forward and these will require diligence and more hard work to ensure our sport grows and thrives in the years ahead. On behalf of all members, I again thank our outgoing volunteers for their efforts. This group has been a functional group and members have received great value for their contribution.
