SAFA Skysailor Magazine

15 November | December 2024 SKY SAILOR Task Two, off the Hinchcliffe launch, saw a stronger tailwind and a downwind run to Boonah with 13 pilots in goal and Victorian legend Garry Stevenson taking the day win. Task Three returned to Tamborine launch and produced a three turnpoint task to Rath- downey with 17 pilots in goal and local Ivan Anissimov first over the line. The multi radius approach mixed up the lines flown and certainly allowed smaller pilots to fly and compete more effectively against bigger pilots and higher level wings. A number of social events including a bare- foot bowls night, hiking, raptor show, winery tour and a movie night with a presentation dinner at the Canungra Hotel rounding out a fun and social week. This new competition format was a creative addition to our competition calendar, allowing for different pilots to succeed, and addressed a gap in organised flying events for XC pilots who might not compete often to race on a more level playing field. It served to improve the skills of those pilots who wish to progress into the top tier of Australian competitions. After several years without a competition in the Canungra region, it was great to rebuild the competition scene in the area and sow the seeds for an even bigger event next year. Thank you to all pilots for contributing for a great social week of XC racing. Final results can be found online here .
