SAFA Skysailor Magazine

17 November | December 2024 SKY SAILOR informed us of their approach, and we could respond with our positions. There were no surprises, and other pilots were appre- ciative and interested in our flying. Airfield operators were cooperative and keen to see us use their facilities. We were careful to follow all their rules, to ensure everyone’s safety and we knew for most this was their first experience with paragliding pilots, and we wanted to open up opportunities for future pilots. The day we flew from Greenvale was the only time clouds formed, the result of a moist air mass arriving overnight with low cloud burning off midday. Wonderful views were had under clouds and looking far afield. The next stop was Einasleigh, but after a few test flights we called off flying due to strong and turbulent crosswinds. We adjourned to Photos: Kim Dacombe, Gavin Milne and Kyle Utley The next launch was a farm airstrip at Hill- grove (200,000 acre farm). A strong crosswind made keeping on the task line very difficult. Mark went rogue and headed downwind, 90º off task, but we were all rewarded when he made his PB distance and we had an enjoyable retrieve, despite only having radio contact. Pilots appreciated the training SAFA initiated for VHF radio use. This allowed us to fly at and around airports safely and with courtesy to other users. Helicopter and plane pilots
