10 SKY SAILOR September | October 2024 For many years, the Melbourne Hang Gliding Club has been hosting a club trip over the King’s (previously Queen’s) Birthday long weekend in June. This year we were in Conargo in NSW, just over the Vic border. The event was really well attended with pilots from Victoria and inter-state all keen to get a taste of winter thermalling, as well as heaps of launching and landing practice. Conargo is in the flatlands, and has an abundance of wide open spaces ideal for car tow launching. Peter Holloway of Freedom Airsports ran a ground tow endorsement course, with a number of students making the most of the conditions, which were absolutely perfect for training on the first 2 days with a gentle wind straight down the strip with some weak climbs to be had.
