SAFA Skysailor Magazine

24 SKY SAILOR September | October 2024 The tasks involved a series of navigational and piloting challenges, many of which could be attempted at any point during the allowed flying hours of the competition. Further bonus points were gained by collecting turnpoints to and from the precision tasks. The event had the use of a large flight area of approximately 4,000km 2 across the picturesque Kent landscape with minimal restrictions and no-fly zones. Pilots were expected to fly about 20 to 25 hours cross-country with a strong focus on strategic flight planning, airborne decisionmaking and practical paramotoring and piloting skills. The key objective was to award trophies to the pilots who demonstrated the highest degree of skill through tasks that accurately represented these categories and the aircraft control necessary to fly paramotors safely and enjoyably.
