29 September | October 2024 SKY SAILOR As a postscript to this report, THPA members have since pruned vegetation at this site. Now to a collection of past reports waiting for publication. #1080 – PG at Broadwater, NSW PIC was flying their paraglider at Broadwater (NSW), in crossed wind conditions. Imme- diately after exiting a turn, the wing was observed to fall behind the pilot, who then fell 2m to the sand. PIC complained of a sore back and was taken to Lismore Hospital by helicopter for assessment and released the next morning when given the all-clear. Pilots are reminded to apply gentle brake inputs when turning, particularly while flying downwind when airspeed is reduced. The likelihood of a stall is increased and can become a reality very quickly. #1176 – PG incident, Vic PIC was flying their paraglider low on a ridge in Victoria. Their wing clipped a tree branch, and PIC safely slope landed. All pilots are reminded to allow a safe vertical and horizontal separation distance from terrain and obstructions, taking into account wind direction and strength.
