SAFA Skysailor Magazine
18 SKY SAILOR September-October-November | SPRING 2025 Once we all got to know each others’ gliders, assisted by R&R identifying pilots and their gliders during flight down course line in lift, so we could all ‘pimp’ their climbs. This guidance really assisted all pilots make those low saves and contribut- ed to extended flights. Rohan and partner Bec, acted as wind techs, giving feedback on conditions and finding those important first thermals. Roger was an outstanding ‘fluffer’, ensur- ing our gliders had pressure, no tension knots to ensure incident-free launches. Launch sites were beautifully grassed, but much steeper than generally experi- enced in Australia. Pre-flight checks were critical, since, due to the altitude, time to landing zones was likely 15 minutes or even longer. The use of cable cars or gondolas to get you and your paraglider up the mountains was a great opportunity to do the video call home and share scenery with family. A few pilots stayed on for Tour 2, and we made the most of an epic last day and flew the holy grail of the Stubai, its glacier! Others unfortunately had to land early for Stubai 2025
