34 SKY SAILOR September-October-November | SPRING 2025 After arriving in Barcelona on my own, after an amazing flight across Arab countries without getting shot down in the Emirates A380, I realised it wasn’t me who smelt, but rather a massive city with sewerage problems, I eventually made it to my motel on the outskirts of the city, not far from the airport. I had an entire day to spend in Barce- lona, and since the State of Origin Rugby league decider was on, I braved the Barcelona public transport system with my Google Maps and Translate, and headed to a downtown Irish Bar to watch the game. Being the ‘old dog’ of the HG team, as opposed to the ‘Old’ Doggie, on the rigid wing and El Capitan (a non-flyer at these Worlds), I was both ecstatic to finally make it as an ‘extra’ onto the AUS Team at #7 for the World Hang Gliding Championships, and feeling both excited and apprehensive about travelling overseas to a foreign land with only my Google Translate app. What a blast!
