SAFA Skysailor Magazine
38 SKY SAILOR September-October-November | SPRING 2025 The flying wasn’t without a few hurdles. On day 1, the top VG rope broke while I was positioning myself nicely with the guns, ready for the first start – kept me flying at take-off speed all day! A nice introductory flight to the mountains at a snail’s pace! Another day my XCTrack app on my mobile disappeared, leaving me complete- ly reliant on a mis-programmed 6030 from a mate (who will also remain nameless – thanks for the help, however, I suspected the ‘programming’ may have been intend- ed to put me off, which luckily didn’t work). I flew with just the vario audio and shitty map on the 6030, yet made it about 15km short of goal into 32nd place for the day! My best day result for the entire comp. Says something about comp flying: Keep it simple, stupid. One day I didn’t know how to set the airspace restrictions into my app or 6030. I recalled Guy saying one could make final glide to goal from 15km out at 7000ft. On my final leg of the task my instrument made repeat warning sounds at me as I approached 5000ft, I saw a ‘WARNING- Barcelona Airspace, counting down 300, What a blast!
