40 SKY SAILOR September-October-November | SPRING 2025 touching it,… this was doing my head in! I couldn’t remember what the TP was, so I zoomed out on the map, realised I had to get more height, then fly back headwind to get the last TP, and climb back up to get over the last mountain for the glide to goal – my first and only goal by the lake for the Worlds! What a relief. On the last task day, we went deep into the edge of the Pyrenees. OMG! Martí Alonzo, our ace local retrieve driver said, “Brodie, you land up there in those valleys I not get you, I kill you!” Well, that was enough motivation to stay up, despite being unzipped for a landing way up in those life-limiting valleys. My mobile aux battery did not connect properly this flight, and died and I missed the opportunity of a lifetime to take pics of this amazing location and its geography, the Sierra Ferrera mountains we were flying over at 10,000ft, with its razorback spine just below. I heard a call from Dr Craig, “Over here Brodie, going up at 700fpm.” I looked around, saw a few gliders climbing, but kept zipping along the top of the spine heading for the TP, feeling pretty good about my flying, except I was freezing What a blast!
