68 SKY SAILOR September-October-November | SPRING 2025 #1768 – HG accident report, Vic HG PIC tripped on landing run out at Corryong (Vic) and impacted right knee on rough ground. When operating inland, install basebar wheels to mitigate falls, and ensure your footwear permits run-out. Corryong is known for requiring higher concentration on landings due to valley winds from all directions. #1771 – Collision of PG wings, Vic PIC was flying their paraglider at Bishops Rock near Portland (Vic). As they flew on a beat and approached launch, they noted another pilot in the air on the other side of launch. PIC, and everyone on launch, was watching that pilot. PIC ensured they didn’t interfere with the other pilot’s flight path. Once that was established, PIC tran- sitioned to pass over launch. As they did, a pilot on launch brought their wing up directly into PIC’s flight path. PIC skimmed over the wing and was able to maintain flight as the other pilot collapsed their wing. PIC did not give a warning of their approach over launch. Pilots intending to launch must ensure the airspace around them is clear of other pilots in the air. Always give a loud call of ‘Launching’ to indicate your intentions, and be prepared to kill your wing if required. #1804 – PG water landing at Lennox Head, NSW PIC was flying their mini wing at Lennox Head (NSW). It was their 3rd flight of the day, but the first on the mini. They launched but went too far to the east on one of the passes, and were unable to make a safe landing, instead ditching in the sea. The wing was destroyed, no injury. When flying with new equipment, pilots are reminded to fly conservatively and AIRS Safety Wrap-up
