72 SKY SAILOR September-October-November | SPRING 2025 wind conditions for change during the flight. Supervising pilots should reiterate this message during pre-flight briefings. If a back injury is suspected, do not move, and seek medical attention. In this case there were two doctors flying at the site. #2107 – PG incident, NSW PIC was attempting to launch their paraglider in crossed conditions from the East Launch at Bald Hill, Stanwell Park (NSW). Their first attempted reverse launch was unsuccessful, but their second succeeded and they commenced a flight directly to the beach LZ. There were no other pilots flying at the time. They were being pushed closer to the cliffs and trees by the wind and to avoid a collision, applied left brake, during which they encountered sink, and made a landing in vegetation, five-minute walk from launch. No damage or injury. The pilot has identified the following learnings: Avoid flying alone, especially in dynamic coastal sites like Stanwell Park. Having other pilots present increases safety and support. Even light crosswinds can pose significant risks during launch and the early phase of flight. Always reassess conditions carefully, and don’t underestimate the potential hazards of crosswind take-offs. Add to this, consult the site guide and ignore the information at your peril. #2109 – PG incident, NSW PIC has launched their paraglider at War- riewood (NSW). The wind was crossed for this site, coming from the right. Soon after launch, PIC was flying on the RHS of launch when they entered an area without any lift. They quickly realised they could not make a safe landing and identified an emergency landing spot on a rock shelf. They landed without injury, but their wing entered the AIRS Safety Wrap-up
