27 SPRING 2026 | September-October-November SKY SAILOR Ultimately, there’s a Board of pilots governing the organisation and a team of pilots trying to deliver what the Board has put in front of us. We all want to fly, and the work is about creating the environ- ment that allows the community to keep doing that. If the forecast was perfect for any site you could reach tomorrow, where would you fly? That is a good question! You know, I think I’d actually stay right here. At the local site just 10 minutes down the road you can get some great flying in. On the perfect day, you have to stay below the airspace and skirt around it at first heading west, but once you get around it, the sky opens up. There are plenty of roads, and it’s a beautiful place to fly. The perfect forecast might only happen once or twice a year. You watch the lead-up all week, and if it comes together on the day, you just go. Bright is also pretty special on a good day in winter, you can get to around 1600m and look across to Kosciuszko and the Main Range which looks amazing when covered in snow. Then again, Beechmont is also hard to beat on a good day… So much choice! Photos: Gavin Hanlon
