7 SPRING 2026 | September-October-November SKY SAILOR accidentally found being in wild places is where I feel the calmest, most content and happiest. I continued by bike-packing and hiking around south-east Australia, where Tasmania grabbed me like nowhere else. Many of the bushwalking tracks in Tasmania are world-class adventures often not for the faint-of-heart. The state’s World Heritage wilderness inspires and draws people who find its raw natural beauty a place to return to often. This magical island state soon became my home Ten years ago, I was part of a film about climbing Blade Ridge and the north-west face of Federation Peak called ‘Winter on the Blade’. This was my first time exploring the mountain on the Eastern Arthur Range and a rather ‘grim’ type-two-fun adventure. The mission and film were very successful, creating lasting friendships and memories, but also profound respect for the mountain. Since learning how to fly paragliders with Wally at ‘Bright Flight’ eight years ago, and being inspired by a couple of Tassie pilots who have chased wilderness flying in the last few years, I have explored more and more remote areas under my wing.
