I tracked down her details and sent her a message about interviewing her for a Women in Flight article. Irene had read the recent piece featuring Kirsten Seeto, and sent me an excessively humble reply – she was happy to chat, but warned me she was a different kind of pilot, one who mostly flies for herself, doesn’t record much, and doesn’t fly with anything fancy – just her vario and phone. She’s never flown comps, but has organised some women’s events.
