47 SUMMER 2025/2026 | December-January-February SKY SAILOR Table 6.22 – Surveillance equipment: requirements Item Class of airspace Requirements 1 Any – from FL 290 and above At least 1 approved ADS-B OUT equipment configuration 2 Class A, B or C (below FL 290) At least 1: a) approved ADS-B OUT equipment configu- ration; or b) approved Mode S transponder with Class B TABS position source device configu- ration; or c) approved transponder 3 Class E (below FL 290) Class G – from 10,000ft, but below FL 290 At least 1: a) approved ADS-B OUT equipment con- figuration; or b) approved Mode S transponder with Class B TABS position source device configu- ration; or c) approved transponder; or d) an approved integrated TABS device Note: The transmission of ADS-B OUT by an aircraft fitted with an approved Mode S transponder with ADS-B capability is not required for a VFR flight. 4) Subject to subsection (5), the requirements stated in column 2 of item 3 in table 6.22 do not apply if the aircraft does not have: a) an engine; or b) sufficient engine-driven electrical power generation capacity to power the surveillance equipment. 5) Subsection 4) does not apply if the aircraft is a glider operating in a class of airspace mentioned in column 2 of item 2C in Table 2.07 (3) of the Part 91 Manual of Standards, at a height mentioned in column 3 of the item and in accordance with the VMC criteria mentioned in columns 4 and 5 of the item. Note for TWG: Flight Standards will discuss deleting subsections 4) and 5) above as technology continues to improve and low energy devices do now exist with sufficient battery power for relevant flights. If subsection 4) is deleted, then subsection 5) is also not required.
