11 WINTER 2025 | June-July-August SKY SAILOR We passed the coastal township of Port Campbell, named after Captain Alexander Campbell, and settled by Europeans in 1870. Then the once famous London Bridge landmark: In 1990 the natural archway that connected the mainland to a tall rocky outcrop collapsed. I’m sure the name now confuses visitors who do not know its history. As we neared Peterbor- ough, I saw a fantastic east-west sealed runway in the distance. I made a group call as we approached to inform them we were transiting. After passing Peterborough, we were instantly hit with the natural beauty of the Bay of Martyrs, part of a 32km coastal park called the Bay of Islands. The emerald green waters below were exceptionally transparent and dotted with many stacked rocks and small islands. The Bay of Martyrs makes up only 2.5km of the coastal reserve and within it is Massacre Bay and Massacre Point. Our group agreed we would turn back to Cobden airport at the Bay of Islands.
