12 SKY SAILOR June-July-August | WINTER 2025 stacks, rock ledges, crashing waves and long wide beach of the Bay of Martyrs made me wonder why we had never come to fly here before. On leaving the coast, I decided to fly along the Curdies River which flows into Peterborough. With the 1000ft height re- striction removed, I dropped to 500ft and followed the river northwards. It is 66km long and flows past the town of Timboon. The others were ahead and made radio calls to land. I peacefully meandered my way back to the airport, taking in the dairy farm activities, following the Camper- down-Timboon rail trail, and around Lake Elongamite – an almost perfect circle with a shoreline of 2km. The white Cobden Dairy tower landmark came into view and soon I too was on final for landing. • Airtime: 1 hour 18 minutes • Distance: 74.9nm • Average speed: 57.3kt Apostles and Shipwreck Coast fly-over
