13 WINTER 2025 | June-July-August SKY SAILOR My partner Lisa, arrived by car in time for our second flight that afternoon. Having a passenger is always more enjoy- able and this time I had Lisa with me. I love sharing these special experiences with her. Numerous radio discussions went on as we made our way towards the wind farm and turn westwards over the water near Princetown. Lisa snapped away continu- ously with her camera. Although having done this flight only that morning, this one was totally different. We left at around 4:15pm, and on turning over the coast westwards, the sun was directly in our eyes. Soon we caught up with the slowest trike which had departed first and Lisa got some great shots of it looking isolat- ed over the vast back drop of the Southern Ocean. The others seemed to be in a race to finish as we heard them making their turn over the coast back to the airfield. I decided to do another orbit over the Bay of Islands – truly a magnificent sight – before we turned and headed for home. With the sun no longer in my eyes, I did another orbit over the swamp below, waiting for our slowest trike to catch up. As we made our Flight #3 over Curdies River, Three Mile Beach, and Peterborough Coastal Reserve Photos: A Batson
