24 SKY SAILOR June-July-August | WINTER 2025 I’ve competed in a few PG comps over the years, but this one was different. Tasks were designed for Sports Class and Fun Class wings which generally put everyone on the same page, especially on tasks with headwind legs. There were some top guns with their submarine harnesses, etc, but even their performances were made harder by not having competition two-liner wings above them. That said, good pilots can fly anything and do well. Corryong, five hours north of Melbourne, is a lovely township and surrounding area, with all the essentials in abundance – good coffee, cafes, pubs, accommodation, and grocery shopping for the all important “Briefiiiiing task 8!” was bellowed out at the very first Australian Sports Class Paragliding Championship held at Corryong on the Victoria/NSW border between 1 and 8 March. Our contingent of 13 Kiwi pilots all agreed how lucky we were to be part of this comp, Not many of us had that many excellent days of comp flying in a row before, with pre-comp flying opportunities added on. Not only was the weather great, but the Comp Organiser, Task Committee and ‘Wing Fluffers’ were top class. Above Mt Elliot Australian Sports Class Paragliding Championship by Robbo Robinson
