SAFA Skysailor Magazine

27 WINTER 2025 | June-July-August SKY SAILOR in the future for our sport will surely make a big impact to our overall enjoyment. With thermals being what they were, and the terrain also allowing for more lee-side triggers, most pilots had some form of wing collapses, mostly asymmetric wing tips, but a few had others too! At one point a splinter group of Kiwis started their own club, named ‘NZ Full Frontal Club’ and they continued to grow and made it sound prestigious to become a member – no thanks from me! We did, however, have a couple of mem- orable events by these club members. Dawid threw his reserve down low near take-off and landed in the Aussie bush, which led to a team of enthusiastic fellow Kiwis recovering his gear, eventually the poor tree was chainsawed (on loan from the pub and organised by Amelie). Although both main and reserve were trashed, we considered the environmental impact and removed all evidence. Hats off to Dawid for his reserve throw and post landing actions, for the way he communicated by radio to the Comp Safety Team, catching up with him at the pub later that arvo he had a smile on Dawid's wing retrieve post reserve throw
