55 WINTER 2025 | June-July-August SKY SAILOR was a hidden rock in the sand. If landing crosswind or downwind be prepared to run and initiate a deep flare. #1714 – Southside PG cliff collision, Vic PIC, flying their paraglider at Southside (Vic), made a late decision to turn downwind and away from pedestrians, and subsequently attempted a turn towards a cliff without sufficient clearance, resulting in a collision and some injury to both ankles and a wrist. Pilots should always plan landings with enough clearance from pedestrians and terrain, landing into the prevailing breeze to reduce speed. Turn away from terrain and into wind. #1715 – PG lost control on launch, Vic PIC attempted to launch their paraglider in strong wind conditions at Portsea (Vic), but was unable to control the wing via brake line inputs. They lost control of the wing and landed heavily on launch. A fracture of the right collarbone resulted. Low-hour pilots should ground handle in strong wind conditions at a safe location Forms and Documents SAFA Documents are now available in the Member Zone of the SAFA website .
