6 SKY SAILOR June-July-August | WINTER 2025 Apostles and Shipwreck Coast fly-over by Anthony Batson Day 1: Tuesday One pilot flew his trike from Gippsland over Mt Hotham to Wahring Field to join us for the trip. Three trikes and a gyro met him at Wahring Field to spend the night in the hangar for an early morning departure. Day 2: Wednesday Fog prevented an early getaway. At 9am we departed the grass runway of Wahring Field and headed west. Flying low over Nagambie Lakes and the Goulburn River, we reached the private airfield ‘Unusual Attitude Air Park’. It was only a 36-minute flight, but we landed there since our flight path took us directly over it. Normally, its A group of pilots from the Southern Microlight Club in Victoria with their ultralight trikes and a gyro based themselves at Cobden airport in Victoria, to explore the Great Ocean Road and the iconic Twelve Apostles and surrounding coastline from the air. Starting from Wahring Field near Na- gambie, the plan was for some to fly, some to trailer their aircraft, and some to transport supporting fuel and equipment by road for use at Cobden airport. Others planned to visit for a day or two. It all sounded perfect for a six-day fly away. Lake Elongamite Photo: Steve B
