SAFA Skysailor Magazine

9 WINTER 2025 | June-July-August SKY SAILOR We made our way to Princetown via Cooriemungl, near Ferguson wind farm – a great directional beacon. We turned south towards the coast, and overflew the Gell- ibrand River Estuary, which outflows past Princeton into the sea. Before turning over the coast and heading west, we all changed channels to the new frequency. I had been monitoring this and noted a few tourist helicopters in the area. As a Victorian, I’ve visited the Apostles many times by road, but to see this stretch of coast by air is very special! Bay of Islands Coastal Park Photo: A Batson • Total airtime: Wahring Field to Cobden 2 hours 54 minutes • Total distance: 181nm • Average speed: 62.4kt Day 3: Thursday Overcast and grey skies, so a few of us went into town for breakfast. Our first flight that day started with cloud cover at around 2000ft and an 8kt headwind. A local trike pilot arrived to join us, making six trikes and one gyro. Our road warrior elected to fly in the back of the gyro, and Olivia, who had arrived with her father by road the previous night, was in the back seat of her father’s trike.
