SAFA Skysailor Magazine
42 SKY SAILOR June-July-August | WINTER 2026 by Carol Liang For this article, I wanted to speak with someone from a slightly different corner of our flying community. Lynelle Williams is a hang glider pilot based in South Australia, as well as Affiliate Director for the SA/ NT region and SAFA’s Treasurer. We spoke while she was on holiday in Bali, and the conversation ranged from learning to hang glide in Spain and the UK, to flying coastal sites in South Australia, sharing airspace with paragliders, and the behind-the- scenes work that keeps us all flying. What came through most was Lynelle’s deep appreciation for the quieter parts of flying: the feel of the air, the detail of familiar sites, the trust between pilots, and the shared responsibility that makes free flight possible. Q&A with Lynelle Williams How did you first get into hang gliding? It started a long time ago. Around 2003, my husband and I were driving between Adelaide and Melbourne and passed a sign for Dynamic Flight Hang Gliding School. We’d done that drive lots of times, but never noticed the sign before. On the Women in Flight: Lynelle Williams on hang gliding, community, and the work that keeps us flying
