44 SKY SAILOR June-July-August | WINTER 2026 As we came around the headland, the wind turbines rose up on the hill behind us. It took my breath away. I looked out and there was one friend, looked down and there was another, and we were all sharing this experience that you can only have if you’re there in the air. The people you fly with are the ones who tell you when the weather is coming in, pick you up when your car is in the shop, retrieve you when you land somewhere strange, and help you understand what happened in the air. Our ability to fly and enjoy our airtime really starts on the ground. What should paraglider pilots understand about flying with hang gliders? That our aircraft move very differently. Hang gliders are faster, need more space, Women in Flight: Lynelle Williams
