52 SKY SAILOR March-April-May | AUTUMN 2026 those small things that will make coordina- tion for retrieves much easier. What’s next for Squiggly? Ham: Without giving too much away, it’s going to be more than just tracking. Retrieve functionality – where a retrieve driver can mark themselves as retrieving, and their icon changes to a car. Instead of a mess of phone calls, you can see cars moving around the map in real time. Notifications – right now, you have to open Squiggly to see what’s happening. Eventually, you’ll be able to follow friends or sites and get notified when something inter- esting happens – someone launching at your local site, hitting 100km, or pulling off a low save. Longer term, I want to move beyond distance as the only metric. Beyond kilometres, there are moments and achievements that matter just as much, and the tools we use shape what we value. How do people get onto Squiggly 2? Ham: It’s currently in internal beta. We’re rolling it out to a small group to make sure it behaves properly under load. We plan a proper launch and release party once we’re confident it’s stable. There’ll also be a Facebook group where people can join, follow updates, post feedback, and get involved. Stay tuned!
