SAFA Skysailor Magazine

25 January | February 2022 SKY SAILOR She was the first tandem passenger to fly under her wings, which was a truly unique experience for any artist. “Looking up, seeing the canopy above me, the light filtering through the fabric and the clouds was amazing,” she explained. Spectators were curious about what they saw asking many questions about paragliding, starting a conversation and getting more people engaged in the sport. The most often asked questions were; when can we see these wings again? Is it my turn yet? How amazingly beautiful are these wings? Have you seen how the shadows look like birds flying over the beach? A true indication of how important public events are to attract more pilots and engage the community who support such events. Approximately 24 people had their first para- gliding flight as part of the exhibition, all in the safe hands of Josh Tie from South East Queens- land Paragliding and his quality ground crew. A number of pilots from the SkyHigh Paragliding Club contributed their time, skills and equipment to pilot the single wings. A thank you from the organisers: • • Josh and the crew from SEQ Paragliding for keeping our tandem passengers safe. • • Dave Goralski and Wally Poboda for their exceptional piloting skills on the single wings. • • The incredibly supportive paragliding com- munity that came out and supported us. • • Artistic directors and curators from Front Beach, Back Beach – Danny Lacy and David Cross, Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery , Deakin University, Radio Marinara, 3RRR, 3MDR. • • Dudek, Matt Fox from Tribal Flight Par- agliding and Remi Campbell Jones from Printed Wings. • • Last but definitely not least – massive hugs to Paul ‘Bish’ Bishop for his invaluable contri- bution and support. Keep an eye out for a documentary about seaing-Country coming soon! All photos: Courtesy Front Beach, Back Beach and the Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery
