17 SUMMER 2025 | December-January-February SKY SAILOR It was my first time heading to Forbes for a hang gliding event. My partner Angus, baby Ewan, dog Jack Noodles, and I drove 9 hours to get to Forbes for the long weekend. Still a Supervised Pilot flying a Malibu 166, I was looking forward to building my experience with aero-towing and pick up some tips from the top mentors. We did three days of flying, getting up early to make the most of the day before the forecast strong winds kept us on the ground. Three Dragonflys and their brilliant tow pilots kept us all launching and practising our ‘aircraft approaches’ and spot landings. Videos and good feedback from the mentors were great to keep everyone improving. I managed to get in 14 tows, a couple of 20-30 minute flights and a few lucky spot landings! Outside of flying we all enjoyed some amazing food, great company and valuable pilot briefing/debriefing sessions with a cold beer. Thanks to the whole team for such a wonderful weekend!
