SAFA Skysailor Magazine
16 SKY SAILOR December-January-February | SUMMER 2025 Special thanks also go to the Forbes Aeroclub for their hospitality, allowing participants to camp on-site, and to Bill Moyes, whose paddock and Dragonflys are always integral to any Forbes event. The weekend carried an emotional weight, as Bill had passed away on 24 September, just 10 days before the event. To honour his memory, we planned a heartfelt tribute, scattering his ashes over his beloved Forbes paddock. Jonny, Marco, and Steve designed a device for the task, and we organised a formation fly-over. I flew in the Green Dragonfly with Marco on the right, and Greg in the Red Dragonfly with Blaino on the left. Jonny flying an RX 3.5 Pro was towed by Steve in the Yellow Dragonfly up front. We took off and circled the paddock, approaching from the south-east. As we reached the centre of the paddock, Jonny released. Steve circled back behind us, so we were in an arrow formation. Jonny scattered Bill’s ashes from the front. Applause and emotion filled the air as Bill took his last flight. Forbes Team Challenge All photos: Supplied courtesy of Vicki Cain
